Question:

265 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the current position regarding his plans to legislate against discrimination in sport clubs, including golf on the ground of gender. [15702/96]

Brendan Smith

Question:

271 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform when it is proposed to publish the Equal Status Bill; if he will take into account the concerns of the Vintners' Federation of Ireland, the Licensed Vintners' Association, the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland and other groups in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16138/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 265 and 271 together.

There is a commitment by Government to promote legislation prohibiting discrimination, inter alia, in the provision of goods, facilities and services. I will consider the issue raised by Deputy Ahern in my proposals.

The concerns of the Vintners' Federation of Ireland, the Licensed Vintners' Association, the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland and other groups will be carefully considered in the preparation of the Bill. The Bill is expected to be published later this year.
