Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Section 35 Relief.

Síle de Valera

Question:

295 Miss de Valera asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the financial assistance, if any, given to overseas film productions under section 35 of the Finance Act. [15883/96]

Section 35 of the Finance Act, 1987, as amended, does not provide for direct financial assistance in respect of film production. The amount of section 35 investments in film and television productions which has been authorised by way of certificates issued by me under the section since 1994, when I was assigned the certification role, is £153 million. Of this, £78 million relates to projects which would be regarded as indigenous — although it should be noted that many of these projects involve a greater or lesser level of foreign co-production finance — and £75 million relates to projects which would be regarded as non-indigenous.
