Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Wellington Bridge (Wexford).

Hugh Byrne

Question:

333 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Wexford County Council favours widening the carriageway on Wellington Bridge, County Wexford; if his attention has further been drawn to the damage caused to the superstructure of the existing bridge and the poor condition of the bridge, discovered only when a detailed survey was carried out as a consequence of the collapse of the bridge following a fatal accident; the proposals, if any, he has to repair and widen the bridge; the cost of such proposals; whether he will fund such works; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15248/96]

Wexford County Council has recently completed repair works to the existing bridge. My Department has approved the council's proposals to prepare an outline brief with a view to engaging consulting engineers to prepare a preliminary report and estimate of the cost of widening the bridge.
