Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sligo Water Supply Scheme.

Edward Nealon

Question:

338 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Environment the current position regarding an application submitted on behalf of Sligo County Council for EU funding for the Sligo and environs water supply scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15332/96]

Declan Bree

Question:

382 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for the Environment when approval will be given for the Sligo and environs water supply scheme which his Department has indicated has been included in an application submitted for Cohesion Funding under the Lough Gill regional water supply scheme; if the contract documents for the scheme have been fully considered by his Department to date; if the attention of his Department has been drawn to the importance of this major scheme which will accommodate the future predicted water demands of Sligo town and a large rural hinterland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16097/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 338 and 382 together.

I am aware of the importance of the Sligo and environs water supply scheme for the development of Sligo and its surrounding areas. As I indicated in the reply to Question No. 111 of 3 July 1996, contract documents for the scheme are being examined in my Department. A decision on the application for financial assistance from the Cohesion Fund is expected shortly from the European Commission.
