Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water Supply Scheme.

Joe Jacob

Question:

361 Mr. Jacob asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the hardships being experienced by the people of Hacketstown, County Carlow, in relation to poor quality and supply of water which comes from a system built in the 1930s; if he will make provision for the installation of a new plant; if he will instruct his Department to issue the necessary approval to Carlow County Council to proceed with the site investigation stage of its proposed scheme, the extension of the north regional water supply scheme from Rathvilly to Hacketstown; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15642/96]

Proposals to extend the Carlow north regional water supply scheme to Hacketstown have been submitted to my Department. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve them.
