Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Máirín Quill

Question:

363 Miss Quill asked the Minister for the Environment the reason it is necessary for persons who have been deemed eligible for the disabled person's grant, who have purchased a new house, to have to complete one year of occupation before the grant for the special shower that they need will be made available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15660/96]

Under the disabled person's grants scheme, assistance is provided for the adaptation or extension of, or the provision of additional facilities in existing houses specifically to meet the needs of disabled persons. It is a statutory condition of the scheme that the erection of the house concerned must have been completed for a period of not less than one year before the date of commencement of the relevant works.
