Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cork Primary School.

Helen Keogh

Question:

396 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education whether she intends to have a primary school built in the Grange/Frankfield area of Cork in view of the ever increasing number of housing estates in that area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14947/96]

I have no plans at present for the provision of a primary school in the Grange/Frankfield area of Cork. Children in this immediate area attend schools in the neighbouring parishes of Ballinlough and Douglas.

Arrangements are being made for the provision of additional classroom accommodation in two schools in Ballinlough, St Anthony's and Our Lady of Lourdes. In addition, the construction of a new school building for Gaelscoil an Athar Tadhg Ó Murchú, Doughlas, was completed earlier this year.
It is expected that these projects will contribute to relieving any increased demand for primary school places from the Grange/Frankfield locality.
My Department will continue to monitor the situation closely in the light of current and projected enrolments, demographic trends, housing developments, etc.
