Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - National School Staffing.

Michael Smith

Question:

397 Mr. M. Smith asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that the current level of teaching staff be retained in view of the consequential effect of losing a teacher at a school (details supplied) in County Tipperary. [14955/96]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on the 30 September of the previous year.

The total enrolment of the school in question on the 30 of September 1995 was 420 pupils. This enrolment warrants a staffing of a principal and 13 assistant teachers for the 1996-97 school year.

In addition to the staffing mentioned above, the school has a remedial teacher and two special additional assistants.

In the circumstances, the 14th assistant's post at the school has been suppressed.
