Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Corduff (Dublin) National School.

Helen Keogh

Question:

431 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education the reason St. Patrick's national school, Corduff, Dublin 15, will lose a teacher in view of the fact that this school is in a County of Dublin area of need; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15160/96]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment of St. Patrick's national school, Corduff, on 30 September 1995 was 326 pupils. This enrolment warrants a staffing of a principal and ten assistant teachers for the 1996-97 school year. Accordingly, the eleventh and twelfth assistants' posts at the school have been suppressed. I would point out to the Deputy that in addition to the staffing mentioned above, the school has a concessionary post on account of its disadvantaged status; a remedial teacher; three special class teachers; and one home-school-liaison teacher.
