Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Child Sex Abuse Allegations.

Michael McDowell

Question:

448 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that a person currently facing multiple charges of child sexual abuse in proceedings (details supplied) was employed for a number of years at Finglas Children's Centre, Dublin 11; and if so, the steps, if any, she is taking to investigate his activities while in this employment. [15227/96]

I can confirm that the person referred to by the Deputy was never employed in the Finglas Children's Centre. However, I am aware that the person was employed in a range of facilities, including a former reformatory school and a former industrial school. I understand that there are a large number of charges against this person, many of which are already before the courts and that the case is still subject to extensive investigations by the Garda. In this context, my Department will continue to maintain contact with the Garda.
