Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Project Funding.

Tony Gregory

Question:

514 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the reason funding has not been granted to the North Inner City After School Activities Project in view of the grave social problems in the area and the very beneficial nature of the scheme. [15709/96]

The youth affairs section of my Department administers a scheme of grants in respect of special out-of-school projects for disadvantaged young people. Grant-aid is allocated to organisations and groups for specific projects which seek to address the needs of young people who are disadvantaged due to a variety of socio-economic factors.

Comhairle le Leas Óige — Youth Service of City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee provides an annual grant to the youth club out of an annual grant Comhairle receives from the youth affairs section.

Additional funding for out-of-school activities has been sought and is presently being considered by Comhairle le Leas Oige in conjunction with the club director.
