587 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Justice the number of valid firearm licences currently held in Ireland; and if she will give details of the convictions, if any, for unauthorised possession of firearms in each of the years from 1991 to 1994. [15298/96]
I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the number of firearm certificates issued to residents of the State by the Garda Síochána for the year ended 31 July 1995 was 195,188.
The number of prosecutions for unlawful possession and use of firearms is published in the Garda Síochána annual reports, copies of which may be obtained in the Oireachtas Library.
