Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Louth Departmental Property.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

604 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice the buildings and sites in County Louth under the ownership of his Department; the location of these sites; if such sites are currently in use by her Department; if not, the use which will be made of such sites; when it is envisaged to utilise these sites or buildings; the proposals, if any, there are to dispose of these sites or buildings; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15462/96]

For the purpose of replying to the Deputy, I am concentrating on buildings and properties which are owned — the Department occupies a large number of properties on a leasehold basis, throughout the State.

In relation to County Louth, the only building which is owned by my Department is Dundalk Garda station. It is in current use and there are no plans to dispose of it.

However, a disproportionate expenditure of official resources would be involved in attempting to compile particulars of old custodial properties, if any, in County Louth — disused, as such, throughout most of this century — and largely handed over for decades for use by local authorities or, in the case of some former staff dwelling houses, rented to occupants.
