Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Child Abduction Orders.

Alan Shatter

Question:

626 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice the number of applications made to the High Court pursuant to the Child Abduction and Enforcement of Custody Order Act, 1991, in each of the years since its commencement, up to and including 31 July 1996; and the number of orders made returning children to a jurisdiction from which they were abducted; the number of orders made refusing to return a child allegedly abducted; and the number of such orders made on appeal by the Supreme Court in so far as they differ from the original High Court order. [15674/96]

The information sought by the Deputy in respect of the High Court is not readily available, but is being compiled and I will arrange for it to be forwarded to the Deputy.

The Supreme Court has made one order reversing a High Court decision to return a child and two orders reversing a High Court decision to refuse to return a child.
