Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Prison Psychiatric Services.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

670 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice the status of the negotiations between her Department and the Eastern Health Board concerning the adequacy of the prison psychiatric services, negotiations which have been ongoing since 1992; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15801/96]

Discussions on restructuring the psychiatric services to prisons in the Dublin area have been ongoing with the Eastern Health Board since 1993. While significant progress has been made in these discussions, a number of points remain to be resolved. I hope however, that these matters will be resolved soon. Recently the Eastern Health Board appointed two psychiatrists who will attend at prisons in the Dublin area and particularly at Mountjoy Prison.
