Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Murder Investigations.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

693 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice the number of murder investigations which are currently under way by the Garda; the number of murder cases in 1996 wherein a suspect has been charged; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16038/96]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are currently 26 cases of suspected murder, which occurred during 1996, under investigation. Suspects have been charged with offences in connection with 16 of these cases. A file has been forwarded to the DPP in respect of one further case and files are being prepared for submission in relation to two other cases.
