Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Voluntary Grants Scheme.

Micheál Martin

Question:

733 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will provide grant assistance under the voluntary grants scheme to an organisation (details supplied) in County Cork. [15324/96]

The group in question applied to my Department for funding towards the cost of facilitators for their group under the scheme of grants to locally-based women's groups. The group received a grant of £3,000 in 1995 under the scheme of grants to voluntary organisations towards the cost of computer equipment and furniture for their centre. Its current application is being assessed and the group will be informed as to the outcome of the application within the next few weeks.

Under the scheme of grants to locallybased women's and men's groups scheme grants can be made for a wide range of activities covering almost every aspect of personal and skills development for women and men. Projects should involve the participants in the running of, and where possible, the design of the project itself. Priority is given to projects aimed at developing the skill and expertise of individuals in setting up and running projects in their communities; groups in disadvantaged areas; projects aimed at specially disadvantaged groups, and new projects establishing themselves in their communities.
