Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Leaflet.

Micheál Martin

Question:

749 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Social Welfare the cost of a leaflet published by his Department entitled Social Welfare and the Irish Presidency of the European Union; the number of copies printed and circulated; the categories of people to whom the leaflet was sent; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15628/96]

The leaflet referred to by the Deputy, which was issued by my Department's information service, summarises the main themes and challenges facing the Irish Presidency of the European Union and sets out the main social welfare issues which will be pursued during the six months of the presidency. It also gives details of a number of presidency-related international conferences with which my Department is directly or indirectly involved. A total of 8,000 leaflets were produced at a cost of £2,850. Copies of the leaflet were provided to all delegates who attended the international events in which my Department has been involved to date and also to the Irish and international media covering those events. Further copies will be distributed at other conferences and as necessary during the remainder of the presidency. The leaflet is also available, on request, to the general public through my Department's information service.
