Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Seaside Resort Incentives.

Edward Nealon

Question:

769 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if he will give details of the developments taking place in the designated traditional seaside resorts to avail of the various incentives that he has given under the scheme; if he will quantify the take-up under this scheme nationally and by designated seaside resort; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15122/96]

As I have indicated in replies to earlier similar questions on this subject, the tax-based nature of the scheme and the normal lead-in time for capital projects of this nature make it difficult to assess the level of investment planning and activity under the scheme. I have asked the regional tourism organisations to monitor the level of developments in the designated areas. However, it is too early yet, for the reasons mentioned above, to be able to quantify with any degree of accuracy the take-up under the scheme.
