Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Newspaper Commission.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

818 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the action planned by the Government on foot of the report of the Newspaper Commission; when he intends to publish the report; and when copies will be given to members of the Opposition parties. [15817/96]

The Government considered the report of the Commission on the Newspaper Industry at its meeting last week. Arising from its consideration, I intend to publish the report on Tuesday next, 30 July 1996 when I intend to lay the report before the Houses of the Oireachtas. I will also ensure that a copy of the report is circulated to the Members of both Houses. The Government has also asked me to advance consideration of the report's recommendations, which span the functional responsibility of many Departments, by having programme managers examine the issues involved. Having considered their work, I will report back to Government on the matter in the autumn.
