Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - REP Scheme Review.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

865 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the outcome of the review of the REP scheme regulations; the number of farmers who have received first year payments and second year payments; the reason for the delay in making second year payments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15473/96]

First year REP scheme payments amounting to £60 million have been approved for payment to over 17,000 applicants. Second year REP scheme payments amounting to over £750,000 have been approved for payment to 215 applicants with a further 35 applications being processed for payment at present.

Under revised monitoring and control procedures implemented by my Department recently, compliance checks are required to ensure that farmers have completed the specific works outlined during the first year of the plan before second year payments can be made.
