873 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the estimated acreage of potatoes grown in Ireland, early and main crop combined, in respect of each of the years from 1987 to 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15561/96]

The estimated areas of potatoes planted in this country for each of the years, other than 1996, are:

874 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the estimated volume of potato imports into Ireland in each of the years from 1987 to 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15562/96]

Trade figures for commodities including potatoes are compiled by and available from the Central Statistics Office. The estimated quantities of potatoes imported for each of the years are:

875 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the amount of grant aid paid under grant schemes, other than FEOGA, to the potato industry in each of the years from 1987 to 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15563/96]

Grant aid was provided directly to the potato sector by my Department in respect of: investments in Processing and Marketing (FEOGA); investments under the Operational Programme for Rural Development (1989-93); producer groups; Donegal crop damage; weather damage to crops 1993; and investments under the Operational Programme for Agriculture, Rural Development and Forestry (1994-99).

Excluding the FEOFA grants scheme, there were no payments made in the years 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990. Total annual amounts paid to the industry, excluding FEOGA grants, in the remaining years are:
