Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Control of Farmyard Pollution Scheme.

Brian Cowen

Question:

903 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will give in tabular form and by county, the number of applicants, the number of successful applicants, the number of people paid, the amount of money paid out and the number awaiting payment in relation to the control of farmyard pollution scheme; the total money committed for all expenditure in respect of all existing applicants; the amount of that money liable for payment in 1996; the number of applicants this amount represents; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16122/96]

The information sought as regards the number of applications, the number of applications processed to approval to commence work, the number and the amount paid to date is set out in the following table. In addition some 216 who were approved on the basis of payment in 1997 have completed work. This represents a grant commitment of £1.568 million and payment will issue in early 1997.

As regards the number awaiting payment the position is that payment issues only on completion of works to the Department's specification and issues within the time limits set in the Charter of Farmers' Rights. Approvals to date, which should all be completed, represent a grant commitment of £99 million on a gross investment of £177.7 million. The level of payment in 1996 will depend on the level of eligible approvals completed.
