Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sligo-Dublin Rail Line.

Declan Bree

Question:

941 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the current position regarding the upgrading of the Sligo/Dublin rail line; if he will give details of the precise investment to be provided in respect of the line; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15888/96]

Under the National Development Plan covering the period 1994 to 1999, total investment in the mainline rail network will amount to approximately £275 million. This investment will be focused on track renewal, modern signalling systems and rolling stock in accordance with the overall policy framework set out in the operational programme for transport. All major lines on the inter-urban mainline railway network, including the Dublin-Sligo line, are included in the proposed investment programme.
