Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

953 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Defence the buildings and sites in County Louth under the ownership of his Department; the location of these sites; if such sites are currently in use by his Department; if not, the use which will be made of such sites; when it is envisaged to utilise these sites or buildings; the proposals, if any, there are to dispose of these sites or buildings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15468/96]

The following State-owned properties in County Louth are administered by the Department of Defence: Aiken Barracks, Dundalk; Slua Hall, Drogheda; and Red Barns Rifle Range, Dundalk. All properties administered by the Department are used for military purposes. The property requirements of the Defence Forces are kept under continual review taking account of the spread of existing barracks and posts and the necessity to maintain security and operational efficiency. Properties becoming surplus to the requirements of the State are disposed of by sale.
