Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Withdrawal of Drugs.

James McDaid

Question:

197 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Health the reason Triptafen tablets and Fentazin tablets have been taken off the market; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16289/96]

Limerick East): The price of drugs and medicines — ex-manufacture — in Ireland is controlled through the mechanism of an agreement between the Department of Health and the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association. The current agreement, which came into effect from 1 August 1993, provided for a reduction of 3 per cent in the price of such medicines with effect from that date and a subsequent price freeze.

The company originally responsible for the supply of Triptafen and Fentazin products in this country transferred the responsibility for the supply of the products to another company which has informed the Department that it is no longer in a position to supply the Irish market with these products under the terms and conditions of the current pricing agreement.
