Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Card Approval.

Joe Walsh

Question:

222 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Health if he will have arrangements made to approve a personal medical card to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin. [16581/96]

Limerick East): The decision to allocate a medical card to an individual is a matter solely for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board. The chief executive officers of the health boards use income guidelines in deciding on eligibility for a medical card and will take account of the medical circumstances of the applicant.

I have had inquiries made of the chief executive officer of the Eastern Health Board in the case referred to by the Deputy and I understand that he has requested further information from the medical card applicant in question. As soon as the necessary information is received by the chief executive officer he will examine the case and communicate his decision to the person concerned.
