Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Youghal (Cork) Hospital.

Michael Ahern

Question:

236 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for Health if he will provide funding for cardiac equipment in Youghal District Hospital, County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16744/96]

Limerick East): Youghal District Hospital is a 35-bed local hospital providing long-stay care services for the elderly. It is the intention of the Southern Health Board to develop the range of services available for the elderly at the hospital in accordance with my Department's policy for community hospitals.

The Southern Health Board informs me that it is not intended that acute services would ever be available at Youghal District Hospital and, accordingly, there are no plans to provide cardiac equipment. The board points out that emergency cardiac defibrillation equipment is part of the equipment carried on the ambulance based at the hospital.
