Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Funding for Core Disability Services.

Mary Wallace

Question:

266 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health the schemes available for funding for core services of disability organisations. [16903/96]

Limerick East): Funding for core disability services is available from a number of sources. A number of organisations such as the Daughters of Charity Service for Persons with a Mental Handicap and the Central Remedial Clinic for people with a physical disability, are funded directly by my Department. Other services are funded by the health boards through section 65 grants. Each year additional funds, both revenue and capital are provided for the development of new services. The priorities for allocating development funds are decided at health board level with the local voluntary agencies.

School services are funded through the Department of Education. Training services for people with disabilities are funded by the European Social Fund and also directly by my Department. In addition to these funds, funding is available from the national lottery allocation to my Department for once-off projects of disability organisations.
