287 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Health the number of child abuse cases which have been reported to health boards in each month to date in 1996; the figures for this period in each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17020/96]
Statistics on the number of child abuse cases reported in each of the health boards are complied on an annual basis by my Department. The following table gives annual figures for the number of reported and confirmed child abuse cases for the years 1991-95. The information requested by the Deputy in relation to 1996 is not yet available within my Department. However, I have asked the health boards for the information and will forward it to the Deputy as soon as I have received it.
