Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Road Funding.

Mary Harney

Question:

329 Miss Harney asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to release funding to South Dublin County Council to allow work to be completed on the final section of the Newlands/Fonthill Road from the roundabout at Ronanstown to the New Nangor Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16329/96]

Road grants have been fully allocated this year and there are no funds available to me from which an additional allocation could be made to any local authority at this stage.

My Department recently invited local authorities to submit proposals for consideration for funding in 1997 under the EU co-financed scheme of grants for specific improvement projects on non-national roads which are of economic benefit and help generate employment. I understand that the road proposal in question will be included by South Dublin County Council in their application for funding. The Deputy will appreciate, however, that I am not in a position, at this stage, to give any commitment to provide funding in 1997 for any particular proposal.
