Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Waste Incineration.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

379 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment the representations, if any, he has made to the United Kingdom authorities to seek a derogation above the limited one available under existing EU regulations in respect of medical waste requiring incineration above 1200 degrees; the dates and venues of all meetings; the grades of personnel of those involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16979/96]

A written submission was made by my Department to the UK Department of the Environment earlier this month seeking an exemption from the UK imports ban in respect of healthcare risk waste arising in Ireland, for the period to the end of 1997. This was also one of a number of waste management matters discussed at a meeting in London on 9 September between senior officials of the two Departments.
