Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Leaving Certificate Statistics.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

388 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education the number of students who completed the leaving certificate examination in 1995 in counties Louth, Monaghan and Cavan; and the number and percentage who went on to third level education. [16275/96]

The number of students who completed the leaving certificate examination in 1995 from second level schools in each of the counties Louth, Monaghan and Cavan is: Louth, 1,874; Monaghan, 938; Cavan, 763.

The figures do not include external candidates as data on such candidates is not maintained by my Department on a county basis.

Data on the domicilary origin of students enrolled in full-time courses in third level institutions other than those of the Higher Education Authority are published annually in the Department of Education statistical report. I have requested my officials to have a copy of the relevant extract forwarded direct to the Deputy.

Data on the domiciliary origin of students enrolled in Higher Education Authority colleges are contained in the Higher Education Authority annual report.
