Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Qualification.

Liam Aylward

Question:

402 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education whether tuition fees will be paid in respect of a student (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for the 1996-97 academic year in view of the fact that she has already completed three years in college but never previously qualified for a grant. [16324/96]

The initiative to abolish third level undergraduate tuition fees does not apply to students who are repeating a year, repeating at the same year level or studying for a second undergraduate qualification at the same level.

The student in question has already studied at undergraduate level for three years. She is therefore ineligible to avail of the free fees initiative until the fourth year of her present course.
