Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Proposed Community College.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

404 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education the current position in relation to the acquisition of land for the construction of the Lucan Irish-speaking community college, County Dublin; if arrangements are in train to purchase the site earmarked for the college; if not, whether an alternative site is being examined; and the anticipated commencement date for the construction of the college. [16378/96]

The present position is that the planning and building unit of my Department has been in contact with the owners of the proposed site for the new all-Irish post-primary school in Lucan and is making the necessary arrangements for the acquisition of the land.

County Dublin vocational education committee have been authorised to appoint a design team for the proposed secondary school and to initiate the architectural planning for the project. At this stage it is not possible to indicate when construction will commence.
