Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Presidency.

Ivor Callely

Question:

435 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the programme of meetings and dinner functions she intends to host in Ireland for the EU Council of Ministers in the context of Ireland's Presidency of the EU; the venues for such functions; the numbers attending; the basis on which the venue was chosen; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16682/96]

In conjunction with the closing conference of the European Year of Lifelong Learning which will be held in Dublin on 6 December, the Minister for Enterprise and Employment and I will co-host a dinner for Social Affairs and Education Ministers in Dublin Castle on the evening of 5 December. Invitations have issued to these Ministers in all the member states of the European Union together with those from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, as well as to Commissioners Cresson and Flynn.

I have not yet received replies to all these invitations so I am not in a position to give the exact number of persons who will be in attendance. The venue was chosen for convenience.
