Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drug Courts.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

463 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice if she intends to introduce Drug Courts for addicts who have been involved in crime to sustain their habit. [16160/96]

I have no proposals to introduce "Drug Courts" for addicts who have committed crimes as a result of their addiction.

Criminal trials are held at separate sittings of the District and Circuit Courts and of the Central Criminal Court. The listing of cases and the division of business in the courts is a matter for the president of each court and the local judge and is one in which I have no function.
