Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.

Seán Haughey

Question:

502 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice if she has satisfied herself that the Brookwood neighbourhood watch in the Raheny/Clontarf Garda District is being adequately staffed, supported and resourced by the Garda; if she has satisfied herself that there are sufficient community gardaí available in this district working on a full-time basis and that such gardaí are not transferred to other duties regularly; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16589/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel to different area. They inform me that the Brookwood area falls within two Garda districts, Coolock and Raheny. The area of Brookwood which is policed from the Raheny Garda district, about which the Deputy inquired, has one community garda designated to it.

The Garda authorities have further informed me that the size of the operational areas assigned to community gardaí in the district have been reviewed recently with a view to improving the service to the public. The Garda authorities will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that an effective service continues to be provided to the various communities in the district.
