Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Development Scheme.

Tony Gregory

Question:

88 Mr. Gregory asked the Taoiseach if he will review the appeal by MACRO (details supplied) for funding under grants for local development scheme. [16214/96]

Under the 1996 scheme of special once-off grants for local development projects, grants were offered to the sponsers of 37 projects in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford and Dublin on 31 July 1996. A significant number of these were in the Deputy's constituency. The entire fund for 1996 of £250,000 has been allocated — so the question of reviewing any of the unsuccessful projects is not feasible. There was a great deal of interest in the scheme due largely, I believe, to the excellent work being carried out currently at local level, in Ireland. Unfortunately, the combination of the large number of applications received and the limited fund — £250,000 — meant that many groups around the country — including MACRO — were disappointed with the outcome.
