Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Turbary Rights.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Question:

639 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry whether his Department will grant a request made by a person (details supplied) in County Galway. [16791/96]

Turbary rights over the plots in question are reserved to the Irish Land Commission. The person in question has had letting of turbary in this area for many years and has made application to purchase the turbary rights. There is, however, a large backlog of turbary schemes yet to be completed. They are being processed in chronological order as quickly as resources will allow. It will, therefore, be some time before this application is processed.
