Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Presidency.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

671 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for the Marine the estimated total cost to his Department of all bulletins, pamphlets, newsletters or circulars arising from Ireland's Presidency of the EU; and the estimated total additional cost to his Department of Ireland's Presidency, indicating the major items of expense. [16391/96]

To date, no expenditure has been incurred by my Department on bulletins, pamphlets, newsletters or circulars arising from Ireland's Presidency of the EU. A newsletter entitled Department of the Marine News is currently under preparation at an estimated cost of £1,848. Costs of major items of expenditure to date, arising from the Presidency, are listed in tabular statement attached. The salary costs in respect of a special allowance for one member of staff appointed to the position of EU Presidency Co-ordinator will amount to £2,283.

Due to enhanced levels of participation required at fisheries and maritime fora during the Irish Presidency, the costs of EU-related travel are expected to exceed the normal level. The bulk of these costs will, however be refunded by the EU.
