Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Per Capita Income.

Michael Ahern

Question:

156 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the level of growth required to raise the per capita income to the EU average. [17014/96]

At present GNP per capita in Ireland is 78 per cent, and GDP per capita is 90 per cent, of the EU average, based on 1995 data published by the CSO and by Eurostat. It is not possible to state what level of growth would be required to raise the per capita income to the EU average as this would depend on the level of growth in EU incomes in the years ahead.
