Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Cork Schools' Funding.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

104 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the provision of funding to provide a general purposes room for a national school (details supplied) in County Cork; if her attention has been drawn to the urgency in having this room provided; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17562/96]

Máirín Quill

Question:

114 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Education if she intends to make a provision for a general purposes room at Whitegate national school (details supplied) in the estimates for 1997; her views of whether such a room is essential in a school of this size; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17191/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 104 and 114 together.

I am not in a position to provide funding from the 1997 Estimates for a general purposes room at the school referred to by the Deputy.

While I am anxious to extend the provision of general purpose facilities in primary schools, the pace at which this can be achieved will be dictated by the financial resources available and the priority must remain the provision of essential classroom accommodation.
