Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

125 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education her views on whether a grant should be paid for one postgraduate course irrespective of whether it is the first postgraduate grant. [17327/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 124 and 125.

A student who is in receipt of a higher education grant to pursue an undergraduate course may have it continued in order to pursue an approved course at postgraduate level. Students who are commencing an approved course at postgraduate level and in doing so are entering an approved third level course for the first time may also be considered for the award of a grant.
Students who have already pursued a postgraduate course outside the State without assistance from Irish public funds are eligible for student support in respect of a second postgraduate course which is approved for the purposes of student support.
In all these circumstances a student must satisfy all the other conditions of the relevant student support schemes.
