Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin School Overcrowding.

Seán Haughey

Question:

132 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education whether she received representations in September 1996, from the Concerned Parents Group, Scoil Fhursa, Kilmore West, Dublin 5, in relation to overcrowding in the infants class with one teacher being allocated to teach 31 children; if she will provide additional teachers to rectify this situation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17334/96]

I can confirm to the Deputy that I have received correspondence from a group called concerned parents in which disquiet is expressed at overcrowding in the junionr infants' classes at Scoil Fhursa, Kilmore West, Dublin.

Scoil Fhursa is designated as a disadvantaged school and therefore a maxium class size guideline of 29 applies to all classes in the school. If the current enrolment at the school cannot be managed within this guideline, it is open to the managerial authorities of the school to contact my Department in the matter.
