Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - Scotstown (Monaghan) School.

James Leonard

Question:

139 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the replacement of St. Enda's national school, Scotshouse, Clones, County Monaghan. [17375/96]

I included a building project at the school to which the Deputy refers in my Department's 1996 list of primary school projects for planning. The decision to include the school in the programme must be seen as the beginning of a process involving enrolments projections, decision on whether to refurbish the existing building or to build afresh, project planning, preparation of sketch design drawings, planning permission and fire certificate, contract documentation, tender and contract. The decision taken by me to include the project on the list is the beginning of that process.

The current position on the project is that it is at that very initial stages of the planning process. My Department's architect has visited the school and the Department will make a further contact with the school very shortly.
