Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - Extension of Public House Opening Hours

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

169 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice if she intends to approve the extension of pub opening hours in this country. [17374/96]

I have no plans at present to amend the liquor licensing laws in this area. However, as the Deputy will be aware, the Select Committee on Legislation and Security is currently reviewing the licensing laws. The committee's report, when it is published, will be examined in detail in my Department. Such examination will have to have regard to the national alcohol policy recently announced by the Minister for Health. Any proposals arising from that examination will be announced in the usual way.
