Question:

1 Mr. Leonard asked the Taoiseach the percentage increase in North/South and South/North trade since the ceasefire in September 1994. [17395/96]

Between 1994 and 1995, imports from Northern Ireland increased by 19.0 per cent, from £536.8 million to £638.6 million, while exports increased by 9.5 per cent in the same period, from £721.9 million to £790.5 million.

For the first four months of 1996, imports increased by 12.0 per cent compared with the first four months of 1995, from £192.1 million to £215.2 million, while exports increased by 6.7 per cent, from £245.0 million to £261.4 million.
