Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ireland-Iran Joint Commission.

Ray Burke

Question:

14 Mr. R. Burke asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will have arrangements made for an early meeting of the Ireland-Iran Joint Commission. [17474/96]

Due to the demands of the EU Presidency and of Anglo-Irish business I have, so far, been unable to arrange a meeting of the Ireland-Iran Joint Commission, but the arrangements are being kept under review.

I am keenly aware of the importance of the Iranian market for Irish beef and can assure the Deputy that my Department and the embassy in Tehran are working closely with my colleague the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry and his staff with a view to removing any obstacles preventing the export of Irish beef to the Iranian market. I took the opportunity on my recent visit to New York to remind the Iranian Foreign Minister of Ireland's concerns.
