Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Hospital.

Ivor Callely

Question:

45 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the progress, if any, made in relation to the opening of the new Tallaght Hospital, Dublin 24; the management structures of the new hospital; the salary scale of the Chief Executive Officer, senior and middle management; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17273/96]

Limerick East): The new hospital at Tallaght is a major and complex project involving the building and equipping of a modern hospital and the integration and transfer of a number of existing hospitals to the new site at Tallaght.

I am happy to report that major progress has been made on all aspects of the project. The base hospitals moving to Tallaght are co-operating successfully and following my introduction of the agreed legislation last July these hospitals are now governed by a single board since August 1st this year.

The building of the new hospital is very advanced with completed sections already handed over to the Tallaght Hospital board. The contractors will complete their work and hand over the building early next year. Plans for the equipping of the new hospital are well advanced and I am satisfied with the progress being made in the many other facets of the project.
My Department has approved a salary level of £50,484 for the chief executive post in a number of major hospitals, including the new hospital to be opened at Tallaght. With regard to the management structures of the new hospital and the salary scales of senior and middle management, discussions will take place with the new chief executive officer within the framework approved for similar sized acute hospitals.
I am satisfied with the progress made to date and I intend to continue to provide all necessary support to the board of the hospital to enable it to effect the transfer of services to Tallaght in accordance with the agreed plan.
